Lisa was born September 10th, 1959 in Shreveport, LA to the late Belva Jane and Gerald Poindexter. She graduated with a Bachelor in General Studies from Louisiana State University in Shreveport and moved to Austin in 1983 where she met her husband Ryne Horvath. She enriched the lives of children and families as an English Second Language teacher at Pond Springs Elementary for 22 years. She was an active member of St Thomas More Church as a hospitality minister and volunteering for many of the church ministries.
Lisa loved nature. She enjoyed camping, hiking, biking, kayaking, and exploring national parks with her husband and family throughout her life. At home, her backyard was a sanctuary for humans and animals alike, welcoming birds and an assortment of critters. She delighted in spending time with her husband; one of their favorite activities was watching Astros games.
Lisa always greeted others with a beautiful smile, effortless joy, and innate empathy. She befriended those in need, lending a compassionate ear along with water and snacks to less fortunate neighbors. She kept everyone in her heart through prayer. She was accepting of God’s will with incredible grace even during life’s challenges.
She is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Ryne Horvath, and their children: Lynn Horvath of Austin, TX and David and Irma Horvath of Brownsville, TX. She was a devoted “LiLi” to her granddaughter Siena and grandpup June. She will be dearly missed by a large extended family and an abundance of close friends.
A memorial Mass for Lisa will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 10205 N FM 620, Austin, Texas. Reception to follow the Mass.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a donation to one of Lisa’s favorite organizations: Mobile Loaves & Fishes, Central Texas Food Bank, or St. Jude’s Research Hospital.
In the words of her Granddaddy Tom Allen, “I never need the sun when you are around, for you brighten the way for me.”
