It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norma Podmoroff. After a 33-year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis, Norma passed away peacefully on July 10, 2021 at the age of 63 with her youngest daughter, Kristal by her side.
Norma had a quiet, loving and giving spirit. She loved dancing, listening to music, baking, reading, crocheting and volunteering. When it came to dancing, Norma could be found busting a move at home or gracing the ballroom dance floor. Some of her favorite music included Elvis Presley, Chubby Checker, Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton, various worship artists and many more. She loved baking all kinds of delicious desserts from cherry cheesecake to rice crispy cake to gooey cinnamon buns. She enjoyed the likes of Helen Steiner Rice poetry and immersed herself deeply in the Bible. She would often crochet colorful blankets and spent countless hours volunteering in the community including serving food at Regina Souls Harbour Mission, reading to children in schools and helping with many community center and church-lead events. While living at Wascana Rehab Centre, Norma would often purchase stuffed animals, stationery supplies and little trinkets to bless other residents.
Norma was also an outgoing, adventurous, cheeky and determined spirit that always beat to her own drum. Norma would talk to anyone and made friends everywhere she went. She enjoyed feeding the geese at Wascana with her daughters as well as spontaneous road trips to places like Moose Jaw and Medicine Hat. She had a childlike sense of humour and uproarious laugh that always lit up a room. To the very end, she openly spoke her mind, stood up for her beliefs and did not accept the limitations of her disease - so much so that she learned how to mouth paint acrylic art and produced some stunning pieces. In her earlier years she was known as “Stormy Norma” and in her later years her “storminess” helped her to be a fighter until the end.
But, most importantly, it was her devotion to God that gave her strength to face and ride out every storm. One of the Bible verses’ she quoted often was Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths."
Norma loved God, her husband and her daughters. Norma was predeceased by her parents Norman and Martha. She is survived by her husband Thomas Podmoroff; daughters Kristal (Eric) and Kimberlee; sisters: Sharon (Alan), Sandy (Perry) and Gail (Steve) as well as numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Although her work here on earth is done, she will always be deeply loved and greatly missed. Norma is with Jesus now and resting in the arms of God’s amazing grace. We will deeply miss her kindness, love and laughter.
A private family service was held in Tubman Funeral Home, Wolseley, Saskatchewan on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with Monica Dayman officiating. Cremation with interment in Ellisboro Cemetery.
