Norma graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School on June 17, 1948. Afterwards, she attended Kalamazoo Community College, Western Michigan University, and Lansing Community College. She proudly obtained her Associate's degree in business on June 13, 1971. Norma was employed at the Haslett High School library and retired in 1991 after 19 years.
Norma loved writing children's stories. She attended several courses at The Institute of Children's Literature, Redding Ridge, CT. After graduating on December 21, 1998, she accomplished having several of her short stories and poems published.
Besides writing, Norma also enjoyed gardening, bowling, golf, crafting, and tap dance. She was a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel.
Norma is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Steve) Looby; her son, Brian (Robin Cleveland) Johnston; half-sister, Dawn (Jeff) Sears; half-brother, Mark (Patty) Gibbs; half-brother, Terry Gibbs; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Norma in death were her parents and husband of 55 years, Richard.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 13, 2021 at 1:00PM with a one-hour visitation prior at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 205 E Middle St. Williamston. Interment will follow at Summit Cemetery in Williamston.
