On September 6, 2021, Margaret Eleanor Rupp, of Oak Crest Village, Parkville, MD (formerly of Fallston, Maryland), beloved wife of the late Donald J. Rupp, died at the age of 94. Born on March 12, 1927 to Albert Gilbert & Jennie Gilbert (nee Cegielski / Zelonka), she was raised in East Baltimore, where she met her husband of 51years.
In addition to being a wife, mother, and homemaker, Margaret had a strong Catholic faith which she nourished through volunteering and philanthropy. From her early years, at Sacred Heart of Jesus grade school to present day she practiced her dedication to her faith. She took great joy in her 42 year career as a librarian, for the Archdiocese of Baltimore, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic School, in Overlea, MD.
Margaret was a strong supporter, volunteer, and affiliate of Daughters of Charity, servicing the poor through many of their missions, as well as, supporting local food banks, soup kitchens, and assisting students with the many charities they serviced. She was also a member of the Danny Thomas St. Jude Society in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. While at Oak Crest Village, she often volunteered her services to the Oak Crest Catholic Community.
Always kind and gentle, and with a beaming smile, she was often referred to as “grandma” by many young employees at Oak Crest. Her impact on students shone through by the many holiday cards and photos she has continued to receive from former students over the years.
Margaret is survived by her son, Steven D. Rupp, Sr., and four grandsons, as well as nephew, Donald Geho. She was also Great Aunt, Great Great Aunt AND Great Great Great Aunt to many, often referred to as Auntie M.
In addition to her husband Donald, Margaret was predeceased in death by her sister, Dorothy L. Geho, her brother, Albert V. Gilbert; nieces Dorothy M. Hartwig and Laverne Freeland; and nephews, Bert and Kenny Gilbert.
Relatives and friends will gather at Schimunek Funeral Home, Inc., 9705 Belair Rd., Nottingham MD 21236 on Monday, Oct. 11, 2021, 3-5 & 7-9 p.m. A further visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2021, from 9-10 a.m. at Oak Crest Village Chapel, 8820 Walther Blvd., Baltimore MD 21234, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
