Nancy Jane Stanton-Hergott, age 90, of Ann Arbor, Michigan passed away September 13, 2021. She passed a few days short of her 91st birthday at her home after complications from a recent injury. She went peacefully in her sleep. Nancy was born in September of 1930 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was a life-long Ann Arbor resident (Ann Arborite).
Nancy was born September 15, 1930, in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Hugh and Myrtle Crane. Nancy graduated from Ann Arbor Senior High school in 1949. While attending high school she trained as a general office worker with the Michigan Municipal League. She once worked at the original Pretzel Bell and tap-danced at Sylvia Studio in Ann Arbor. She attended and modeled at Patricia Stevens Modeling School. She taught sewing at A2 recreation Department for kids with little or no sewing experience and tailored her own suits, and dresses for her daughter Cindy.
After high school, Nancy married Thomas A. Stanton in 1955. They met while working at King Seeley Corporation. Together they built and managed Modern Electric for several decades. They had two children, Thomas M. Stanton, and Cynthia L. Stanton. Soon after, they built and moved to their rural horse property off Scio Church Road. She loved the quiet and the wildlife at the “Stanton Ranch.” There they raised their children along with a host of horses, dogs, and cats. Many stray dogs and cats were fortunate to come under Nancy’s care.
She was preceded in death by Thomas A. Stanton (husband), and Thomas M. Stanton (son).
Nancy remarried Jeremiah A. Hergott (Doc) in December of 2003. She quickly grew fond of her new extended family. She soon acclimated and enjoyed the busy summers living on the Chain of Lakes and wintering in the Florida Keys. Doc predeceased her in 2012.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Stanton) Woods, Doug Woods (son-in-law), and Grandsons James Woods, Ryan Woods, and the Hergott children and their families.
A graveside service will be scheduled in Spring of 2022 at Washtenong Memorial Park, 3771 Whitmore Lake Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105. Father Brendon J. Walsh will officiate the ceremony.
