William “Bill” Joseph Gibson, 60, of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on September 16, 2021, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on December 29, 1960, in Borger, TX. Upon graduating from Catholic High in 1979, he joined the US Air Force to serve our great nation for over eight years. After an honorable discharge, he was employed by LSU in their Coastal Studies Institute for almost 32 years where his numerous contributions to both academia and people’s personal and professional development have not gone unnoticed. A creative problem solver with a can-do attitude, he always showed up ready for action. He was a jack-of-all-trades.
Outside of work, he wore many hats too. Bill was president of his neighborhood HOA, a faithful member of St. George Catholic Church, and especially enjoyed biking, hiking, and traveling. If he wasn’t to be found, he was probably watching a movie, which he loved to do as evidenced by his impressive DVD collection. His thirst for adventure (and work) took him all around the world, which is how he met his former wife with whom he raised two loving children. He instilled in them a passion for learning and a desire to help others to the best of their abilities. As a father, he showed great love for his children no matter the circumstances. As a brother, he would do anything for his siblings. As a son, he always took care of his parents. As an angel, he will be watching over all of us and will be greatly missed on this Earth by those who loved him: his children Katelynn and Robert Gibson; parents Carroll and Sophie Gibson; siblings Julia Harwell (Mark), Carl Gibson (Theresa), Ghislaine Christiansen (Tim), and John Gibson (Barbara); and nine nieces and nephews.
A tribute to his life will be at St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, LA, on Friday, September 24th at 11 am, followed by a funeral service at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in his honor toward a charity of your choosing that supports veterans of the US military.
