Maria (Gonçalves) Lopes, 93, of Wethersfield, beloved wife for 22 years of the late Joaquim “Jack” Lopes, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Born in Vale da Serra, Portugal on December 15, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Maria (Jorge) Gonçalves. Maria came to America in 1960. She married Jack in 1961 and they lived in Hartford and eventually settled in Wethersfield. She worked for Arrow, Hart & Hegeman, Inc. and Cooper Industrial for many years. She was a longtime faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Hartford. She enjoyed gardening and loved sharing her delicious baked goods with family and friends.
Maria will be forever missed by her daughter, Dina G. Lopes of Waterford; her stepson, Ronald J. Lopes and wife Joann of South Windsor and a host of dear nieces, nephews and extended family members in the U.S. and in Portugal. She was predeceased by her sister, Felizbela Carvalho. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 12 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 50 Kane Street, Hartford. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Rocky Hill. The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Boulevard, Wethersfield. Masks are required for all indoor services.
