Albert Walden Ends, Jr.’s life adventure began on October 20, 1935, in San Carlos, California, as the first-born of Albert Walden Ends, Sr. and Mary Dean Ends. Sister Marianne joined the family three years later.
Walden, known affectionately as Wally or Waldo, made his transition to his next great adventure on October 4, 2021, at M.D. Anderson Hospital, as his much-loved wife, Lynette Bishop Relyea, and daughter, Sheila Ends Wilson, held his hands.
His greatest legacy is his family who continue his love of learning and service as teachers, police officers and loving parents. As a professor at three major universities and author of numerous books, his life’s mission continues through his children and students.
A deeply spiritual person, he brought hope and encouragement through his prayer ministry, and as a consultant to organizations throughout the country, he helped people understand themselves better and work together more effectively. When hospital chaplains prayed for him, he, in turn, prayed for the chaplains.
Highlights along the road of life include becoming an Eagle Scout at 15; winning third place in Diving in California State competition; serving eight years in the Naval Reserve; earning a Ph.D. from Michigan State; completing a three-year Post-Doctoral Internship with National Training Laboratories Institute for Applied Behavior Science; being the father to three wonderful children and Bonus Dad to one; teaching at three major universities; running his consulting company, Humanagerial Systems, for 45 years; and being named a Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary, serving on the Rotary Board of Directors and being recognized with the David M. Kadjar Distinguished Service Above Self Award.
He cherished time with his family, coffee time each morning with his wife, friendships cultivated over a lifetime, caring for his garden and aquarium, watching and feeding birds in his garden, being Chef Waldo in the kitchen, reading, listening to music, playing the flute and banjo, writing, and traveling.
Lovingly holding him in their memory are his wife, Lynette Bishop Relyea, and their children, Sheila Ends Wilson, and husband, Mike Flores; Brady Dean Ends and his wife, Kristi; Andrew Walden Ends; and Catherine Relyea Larson, and her husband, Dr. Curtis Larson; brother-in-law, Stanley Bishop; grandchildren Kaeli Nall; Katie Wilson and her fiancé, D. J. Anderson; Rafe Ends; Samantha Ends; Grant Larson; Andrew Larson; and Alexandra Larson; nieces, Linda Reese and Beth Johannes; cousin Helen Ross; special friends and neighbors; prayer partners; clients; and members of the Rotary Club of Baytown, Texas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 5, at 2:00 p.m. in Tucker Hall on the Lee College campus., with a reception following.
To honor Walden’s example of life-long learning, the family is establishing the Walden Ends, Ph.D. Endowed Scholarship at Lee College to support students in perpetuity in their effort to earn a degree.
