Dennis George Wetherley, 77, was born August 24, 1944 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada and passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2021. He was the son of the late Doris Carol Wilson and George Edward Wetherley.
Dennis worked at Harsco as a fitter for 33 years, where he was known as "Frog". He enjoyed sports and being involved. If he wasn’t working, you would be sure to find him on a baseball diamond or football field. Beginning in 1975, “Coach Dennis”, or “Big D”, invested a significant amount of time coaching youth baseball and football at Midland and Bray Park. Dennis served in many roles. He coached, umpired, ran concessions, and lined the fields – whatever was needed. Above all, he influenced many young men who remember him to this day. His booming voice was recognized by all and he will be missed.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Esta Wetherley; son, Dennis Wetherley, Jr. (Dawn) of Lexington; daughter, Tricia Wetherley Wright (Richard) of Lexington; granddaughters, Kimberlee Wright of Lexington and Cameron Wetherley of Roswell, GA; grandson, Alex Wetherley of Lexington; sisters, Diane Lee (C.O.) and Joanne Lovett, both of West Columbia, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment to follow at Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and family at the cemetery following the burial.
