The graduating class of Jack Yates High School, 1955, walked out a tall, slender, and beautiful black woman known as Barbara Crawford. She decided to jumpstart her future at the local Houston Community College and begin taking computer classes that led to her long-term successful career at AT&T formerly known as Southwestern Bell. Additionally, she was a committed and a loyal usher with Greater Love Church, Pastor Steve Barlow. She often spoke of the enjoyment and sheer delight it brought her to serve God and people in this capacity.
You didn’t have to spend a lot of time with her to immediately notice her stature, poise, hearty laughter, sense of humor, and wide smile. She loved her family dearly, and she thoroughly enjoyed playing dominoes, cards, and games.
Traveling and horseback riding were her all-time favorites and she ensured she experienced both fully.
Barbara Brown passed away on October 3, 2021 at age 84 years old. She was the proud mother of 3 children, Roy Brown, Marjorie Carter, and Douglas Brown III. The greatest love of her life was her husband, Douglas Brown Jr (deceased). The two of them stood in union for over 50 years.
Barbara Brown is survived by her youngest son, Douglas Brown III., her eight grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren.
We pay homage to her parents for bringing such a rich life to us, thank you Lenna Mae Phillips and Willie Crawford for the beginning of the Brown legacy.
