Edward Julian “Joe” Holland, born March 9, 1945, in Memphis, TN passed away on October 8, 2021, at the age of 76 surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy Murry Holland, his parents, Edward and Elizabeth Holland, and his sister Debra Holland. He is survived by his three daughters, Ann Elizabeth Downen, Helen Holland Woods (Alton), and Lisa Taska; two sons Michael Holland Sr., and Lindy Holland (Michelle), and stepdaughter Bobbi Murry. He was Paw Paw to 10 grandchildren; Michael Jr (Jessie), Amber, Chance, Amy, Emily, Christopher (Jessica), Dustin, Devin, Dalton, and Brooklin; and 7 great-grandchildren; Jennifer, Aubree, Layla, Cason, Eric, Camile, and Rosalie. Joe leaves behind many admirers and lifelong friends.
Joe was a proud Vietnam War veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, 197th Infantry Brigade. During his service in Vietnam he was the recipient of two Bronze Star medals, among other service awards. Joe was also a member of Unity Masonic Lodge #95. For many years, Joe was a beloved and dedicated coach for Gaisman Park Sports Association, where he had the chance to impact the lives of many young people who still remember him fondly today. He was honored to be inducted into the Memphis Amateur Sports Hall of Fame 2018. Joe enjoyed playing golf and shooting pool when he wasn’t busy cheering on the University of Memphis Tiger football and basketball teams. His favorite place to eat was Sweet Peas in Bartlett, TN where everyone knew his name. He most enjoyed the opportunity to spend time with his family and many friends.
The family will receive friends for Joe on Monday, October 18, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 North Germantown Parkway, Bartlett, TN 38133. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens.
