Michael W. Parnell, 74, passed away October 9, 2021. Mike was a life-long resident of Memphis, TN, graduating from The University of Memphis, and spending most of his career as an educator with Shelby County Schools. He started his career as a special education teacher, moving on to Supervisor of Special Education, and finishing the last 24 years of his career at Bartlett High School, first as Vice Principal and then as Principal. He was always immensely proud of the faculty, staff, and students at Bartlett and took pride in Bartlett High School’s continued growth and drive for excellence in education.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Milton H. Parnell. He is survived by his children, Keith Parnell (Steve Shope) of Eureka Springs, AR, his daughter Mollie Pierro (George) of Monroe Township, NJ, his grandchildren, Anna and George, his mother Rose Marie Parnell of Collierville, TN, and his sisters, Diana Oliver (Tim) of Germantown, TN, and Debra Holt (Jack) of San Antonio, TX.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, a public memorial service will be postponed until a later date. The family requests that any memorials be sent to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or to Holy Trinity Community Church at 685 S Highland St., Memphis, 38111.
