Deborah Ann Mitchell Book, 63, the embodiment of the greatest commandments (Matthew 22:37-39) to love God and neighbor, slipped away quietly November 13, 2021, from her family in Lexington, S.C. to her eternal home with her Lord and God.
Born February 20, 1958, in Kinston, North Carolina, Debbie is survived by her husband of 42 years, Randy Wayne Book; her parents, William and Josephine Mitchell of Kinston, NC; siblings: Denise Goble of Brandon, MS; William Mitchell, Jr. (Susie) of Kinston, NC; and Donna Sasser (William) of Appling, GA; children: Dwayne Book (Nicole) of Lexington, SC; Kristina Buckner (Robert) of Lexington, SC, Bradley Book (Melanie) of Clayton, LA; and eight grandchildren: Alexis Rinke, Bradley Book, Jr., Caden Book, Ella Book, Braelyn Book, Perrin Book, Harrison Buckner, Walter Buckner and numerous nieces and nephews who are all her favorites.
Debbie served the Army from May 1, 1979, through her honorable discharge December 11, 1984. While in the army she met her husband, Randy, served as a radio operator, flight operation SGT and training NCO (at Fleigerhurst Army Airfield, Erlensee, Germany and twice at Fort Polk, LA). She then followed Randy for the remainder of his military career and served as a civilian working in the Pentagon for the Chief of the National Guard; in the Republic of Panama at Fort Davis for US Army South Communication Command and in Kentucky at Fort Campbell for Blanchard Army Hospital. After their retirement from the army; Debbie worked in customer service for the City of Concord, N.C. Airport and then served Richland County (Columbia, S.C.) as Public Works Safety Trainer and Coordinator until her retirement. All the while being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and best friend to all; beautiful, inside and out. Her zest for life was demonstrated by her love for travel by motorcycle and RV. Debbie is remembered by all for her sunny disposition, beaming smile and bright presence which filled the room. She is also remembered by many for her loving and determined spirit.
A memorial service will be conducted at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, S.C. at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2021.
