He was born in Bretanha, Sao Miguel, Azores, a son of the late Jose I. DeMelo and Mary (Soares) Mello, he was a Dartmouth resident for 64 years and a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Church. He was devoted to his family and was happiest when spending time with them, especially the little ones. He enjoyed working in his yard and garden.
He is survived by his children, Susan Faria and her husband Joseph of Dartmouth, Cathy DeMello and her partner Robert Armer of FL and Wayne DeMello and his partner Susie Cabral of Dartmouth; his grandchildren, Kristi Proulx and her husband Andrew, Christopher Faria and Jake DeMello; two great-grandchildren, Logan and Nolan Proulx; his siblings, Eduarda Souza and her husband David and Dennis Mello and his wife Betty; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Eduardo Melo, Connie Frias, John Mello, Gilly Mello and Tiny DeMello.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, November 19, 2021 at 10:00AM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd. Dartmouth followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Visitation Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
