Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 19, 2021 in Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus, Georgia. Columbus Hospice House Chaplin Allison Owen will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stewart Community Home, Columbus Hospice House, or a charity of your choice.
Mrs. Nesmith was born on April 11, 1926 in Fairfax, Alabama the daughter of Lawrence Sterling and Carrie Fannie Bass Combs. She attended Valley High School in Fairfax, Alabama.
In 1965 she moved to Columbus, Georgia and married Glenn Louis Nesmith. They bought a home in Overlook and she has lived there for more than fifty years where she has made many, many enduring friendships.
She was predeceased in death by her husband of 19 years, Glenn Louis Nesmith; her daughter, Mary Lanier Berzine; her brother, Lawrence Sterling Combs III; and her longtime sweetheart, (to whom she was devoted), Dewey Reeves.
Survivors include her two daughters, Elizabeth Lanier Campbell (Al) of Asheville, North Carolina, and Carolyn Frances Lanier of Marshall, North Carolina; grandchildren: Katherine Summers Berzine of Falls Village, Connecticut, and John Dixon Campbell (Mackenzie Hancock) of Brooklyn, New York; and son-in-law, Richard Berzine of Falls Village, Connecticut.
The family is grateful for her caregivers Estelle Glover, Nancy Reeder, and Leila Hood for the loving, compassionate care that they gave Mrs. Nesmith. The family is also grateful for the loving care of the Columbus Hospice House nurses.
