On Tuesday, November 9, 2021, Margaret Goldie was called home to finish her journey pain-free. She is now the picture of health and occupies one of God’s rooms in his many mansions, amongst those who have been called before her. She was 62
Margaret Goldie Burnett Hanson was born on Sunday, October 25, 1959, to the late David A. Burnett and Charlotte C. Hymes Burnett Smith. She was the third of five children born to this union. She was born at Freedmen’s Hospital in Washington, DC.
Margaret affectionately known as Goldie, began her education in the District of Columbia Public School system at Ruth K. Webb elementary. She also attended the Prince George’s County Public Schools for a while before returning to DC. to complete her education.
Goldie began her career in the hospitality field working at the Deli shop making sandwiches at the Woodward & Lothrop's downtown Washington, DC. Margaret learned the secret of how to make the best subs. She held different positions in the hospitality field working in many different companies in Washington, DC such as the Ramada Renaissance, the Grand Hyatt, and the Washington Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill. Margaret enjoyed her work and meeting and helping people.
Margaret met and married Curtis Hanson and lived on Montello Avenue, NE, Washington, DC.
Margaret will be remembered for her love of family and for instilling an ongoing love and appreciation for family in all her children and grandchildren. She was joyful, kind, and always generous with her love and support. Margaret was an incredible Mom and “Gramma,” and masterful at “taking everything in stride” serving as a beautiful role model for her family. Her life on earth is truly something to be celebrated.
She is preceded in death by her beloved eldest son, Razeem Rashid Bryant, sister, Gailia Woodward, and Step-sister, Yvonne Smith.
She leaves to cherish her memories her two loving children; Danté Joy and Lynda Hanson; her 11 grandchildren; Rashid Sr., Raveen, Rikia, Sequoya (Heavyn), Layla, Constance, Korrie, Lena, Makayla, Logan, and Lucious. Her great-grandchildren; John, Taylor, Rashid Jr., Ry'lee, Milanni, and Ryan.
Her three siblings; Sunday Manning, Priscilla Burnett, and Orville Burnett. Step-sister Lutrina Jackson and Step-brother Sherman Smith, Jr. and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
