Billie was born on August 6, 1931, to George and Dora Davis in Sneedville, TN, and immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. Billie went on to graduate from Sykesville High School, Sykesville, MD in 1948 at the age of sixteen.
Billie was a farm girl that had meager beginnings. She lived through the depression, World War II rationing and many health battles. She never lost her faith in God and always served others through teaching Sunday School, Clarksville Fire Departments Ladies Auxiliary and many other organizations and charities throughout her life.
Billie spent twenty-five years working at the Fulton and Highland, MD post offices where she served her neighbors and became a fixture in the community.
In 1951, she met Andrew Hamke and the two were inseparable from that point on. Andy and Billie were married for over 59 years and had two children, Jeff, and Dean.
Billie was a fiercely dedicated mom to Jeff and Dean and raised them to be strong men of character. Family came first and was, above all else to Billie, a value she instilled in all those around her. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.
Billie was predeceased by her husband Andrew, sisters, Hattie, Jewel, Eleanor, and Florence. She is survived by her sons and daughter in-laws Jeff and Sandy Hamke of LaPlata, MD, Dean and Lee Anne Hamke of Clayton, NC, her sisters Margaret and Ruth, brother, Wayne and three grandchildren, Deanna, Andrew, and Cindy, a great grandchild Gunther and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In heaven today the Lord said, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Billie’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital St. Jude Memorial Donation. A small graveside service for friends and family will be announced later.
