Yan Heck was surrounded by her family when she peacefully passed away on November 18, 2021.
Born on May 3, 1934, she lived in the countryside of Battambang, Cambodia until the Khmer Rouge took over the country in 1975. In 1978, Yan and most of her immediate family members escaped the Khmer Rouge's regime by traveling through the night, eventually crossing the Cambodia-Thailand border to seek refuge. They lived in the Thai refugee camps for a couple of years before some of the family members were sponsored to the US in the early 1980's.
Yan had a kind and easy-going personality, always having a smile on her face even when times were tough. She enjoyed cooking for her children and grandchildren, and also enjoyed watching Khmer karaoke videos in her spare time.
