Shelley Lyn Dickson, 47, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 in Northglenn, CO due to complications from muscular dystrophy and a stroke she suffered in early 2019. She was born on May 16, 1974 in Colorado Springs, CO to her parents, Nolan Stuart and Linda Dickson.
Shelley graduated from Falcon High School in Colorado Springs in 1992 and studied as a medical assistant at PPI Health Careers School. She was a loving mother, sister and friend, and she had a kind and generous heart. She was especially fond of animals and babies, and she loved her friends, warm weather, scary movies, Raiders football, and drama. She anxiously awaited the arrival of her first grandchild, Blakely, in May 2020.
Shelley will be forever remembered by her daughter, Kelsey Hissom (and husband Justin) of Castle Rock, CO; son, Bryan Dickson of Colorado Springs; sister, Stacey Hayes (and husband John) of Winston-Salem, NC; two nephews, Christian and Austin Hayes; two cherished cats, Chubs and Bailey; and her loving friends. She was predeceased by her mother Linda in 2012, her brother Chad Nicholas Delaney Dickson in 2017, and her father Nolan Stuart in 2020.
The family wishes to thank Shelley’s dear friend and Visiting Angel Tamara Burk of Denver, CO for her kindness, creativity and love in helping to improve the quality of Shelley’s life over the last two years. The family also thanks the dedicated staff at Avamere Transitional Care & Rehabilitation who took great care of Shelley through many challenges.
The family condemns state and local authorities (Colorado Department of Health, Tri-County and Adams County) whose policies prevented in-person visitation at Avamere by Shelley’s one and only grandchild during the last 18 months of her life.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. All friends and family are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Shelley’s name to Special Kids Special Families (sksfcolorado.org) or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
