He was born on March 20, 1926 to Katherine Barnes Odell and George Wesley Anderson at the Congers home of his great grandmother. Dave was a real patriot and a proud veteran. He graduated from Congers High school early so he could join the army and was stationed in the Philippines at the end of WWII. After the war and on his first day at New Paltz State Teachers College, he met his future wife, Lois Anne Whittaker of Bay Ridge, NY (a city slicker). They married in 1949 and later raised three children in his family home. After attending Embry-Riddle and a short stint as an airplane mechanic, Dave got his Masters in Education from NYU, first teaching 4th grade English at the Congers School, then at Clarkstown High School in New City, later being promoted to Assistant Principal until his retirement in 1981. In retirement Dave enjoyed maintaining his homes, cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, tractors and large garden all the while volunteering driving for the Congers Valley Cottage Ambulance Corp. He earned his EMT status and helped thousands of people. He was talented in carpentry, house and car maintenance, antique boat restoration, Hudson River Boating and drinking inexpensive gin with his friend George. Dave was an airplane enthusiast and once proudly owned his own airplane. He belonged to the Rockland County Model Aviators Club and for years enjoyed flying (crashing) his remote control model planes which he hand built. Dave was a talented trumpet player and musician. He taught himself piano, bass, electric guitar and trombone, which he enjoyed playing professionally with various jazz bands. Dave could also sing and was a member of The Hudsoneers Choral Group and belonged to choirs at the Congers Methodist Church and St John’s Episcopal Church in New City. Over the years, Dave enjoyed his family getaways in Holly Hill and Bradenton, FL as well as his peaceful cottage at Wolf Lake, NY.
He is survived by his daughter Nancy Anderson Moore (Rick) of Charlottesville, VA and his son Richard Whittaker Anderson of Congers, NY, his loving granddaughters Elizabeth Anderson Moore of Charlottesville and Katherine Claire Moore of Richmond, VA and his most beloved great granddaughter Sepha Moore, also of Charlottesville. In addition, he is survived by his sweetheart Susan Brown of New City, NY who brought him joy in his later life. He was predeceased by his son David James Anderson and his wife Lois.
