Born in Dallas, Texas, he was the eldest son of Truman & Mary Jones. He attended Texas A&M, receiving his BA and MS in Mathematics. At the University of Tennessee he received his PhD in Mathematics. He taught math at Louisiana Tech (Ruston, LA), Belhaven College (Jackson, MS), Mississippi College, and Millsaps College. He spent countless hours inside and outside the classroom tutoring and mentoring his students. It was a profession that he truly loved and gave his all to.
He served our country as an officer in the United States Army. He flew helicopters from 1962-1965. He transitioned to the United States Army Reserves until retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in 1989.
Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing with good friends, photography, and traveling with Jo. Most of his spare time was spent in his workshop. His love for Jesus led him into volunteering a lot of his woodworking skills. He attended Christ United Methodist Church and was very active in Stephen Ministries, Bible study, and Sunday school. He treasured his time with his church family.
He believed deeply in the mission of the Salvation Army, Hospice Ministries, Habitat for Humanity, and was a lifetime blood donor to the Red Cross.
He is survived by (wife) Jo; (son) Rob & Anna; (daughter) Sandy & Tom; (brother) Jimmy; (grandchildren) Jessica, Jennifer, Jeremy, Jared, Payton, Samantha, Taylor; (great grandchildren) Grayson, Tye, & Jackson.
The family directed memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., November 23, 2021 at the Christ United Methodist Church, 6000 Old Canton Rd., Jackson, MS 39211. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Stephen Ministry at this church.
