Virgil Reinhard Flath passed away on November 3rd, 2021, in his home in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 97. Born on November 25th, 1923, in Casselton, North Dakota, he was the son of Reihnard and Anna (Bahls) Flath. He served as a sergeant in the 7th Armored Division in WWII and experienced the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of Belgium. Returning to Portland after the war, he married Ruth Evelyn Willis on August 24th, 1946. He dedicated his working life to being a skilled cabinetmaker and member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
Virgil is survived by his sons Robert Flath and Bruce Flath and daughter-in-law Georgene Young. He is preceded in death by his wife Ruth and his sisters Viola Knight, Violet Gannett, and Virginia Robertson.
Virgil was well-known for being generous with his time for others and spent many hours volunteering for the Neighborhood House Senior Center in Multnomah Village.
