Bernard (Jackie) was born in Leake County on November 2, 1932. He grew up in Carthage, Mississippi and was a member of Pearl Hill Baptist Church. He was 18 when he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior. He graduated from Edinburg High School, earned an Associate of Arts in Education at East Central Jr. College, and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Bernard served 4 years in the US Airforce where he was stationed at Kelly Airforce Base, in San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of the Mississippi Society Club, was in the Ping Pong Club, and played baseball in college. He was passionate about sports-mostly football. Bernard was a true patriot and loved his country- USA! Bernard was the Maintenance Supervisor for the city of Pascagoula, MS and retired after 26 years of service.
Bernard married Dorothy Nell Nelson, on July, 7, 2007. They enjoyed living in Cypress, Texas with family close by. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church. Bernard was a southern gentleman. His love for Jesus was evident to all. He was kind, gentle, a model of integrity, always positive, and he deeply loved his family and friends. He also enjoyed traveling with Dorothy; especially loved cruising.
Bernard was survived by his wife of 14 years, Dorothy Nell Ellison, his son Bernard Ellison, Jr. and wife Christy, brother Gerald Ellison and wife Teresa. Step children- Randy Hines, Ray Hines and wife Robyn, Ronald Nelson and wife Teresa, Chandra Peele and husband Bruce, Melissa Henderson and husband Danny. Seven grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Henry Amzie Ellison and Jewell Melissie Mooney Ellison. Regina Hines Ellison of Ocean Springs, MS passed from his life in 2005.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held at Pearl Hill Baptist Church, Carthage, MS. The viewing will be open to family and friends at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, the 27th of November. The Service will begin at 11:00 A.M. followed by burial and a time of fellowship at the church.
