He was a member of the Church of Christ in South Range; was in the army from 1944 to 1946, where he attained the rank of Corporal; a licensed lumber surveyor with the Maritime Lumber Bureau; past president of Digby East Fish and Game Association; served on the executive committee of the Digby County Exhibition; a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 22 Bear River; a plumber at CFB Cornwallis for 32 years, the last eight as plumbing foreman, from which he retired in 1983; an avid sportsman, as he loved hunting and fishing; and he liked to entertain his friends with his humour and many jokes.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Reta (Stanton), second wife Annie (Banks); sisters, Beatrice (Reg) Lewis, Florence Haight, Georgie (Hallett) Foster, half-brother, Keith Haight; step father, Warren Haight; brother in law, Arnold Banks and nephew, Eddie Banks.
He is survived by his youngest sister Vera (Roy – deceased) Beals. He is also survived by daughters, Ruth (Wendell) of Porter’s Lake, Blanche (Joe) of the Delap’s Cove; sons, Larry (Debbie) of Kentville; Roy (Arlene), of St. Stephen NB; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Family flowers only. Donations in Donald’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be on November 26, 11am-12pm with funeral service following, all from Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby.
Following Public Health regulation Proof of full vaccination or letter of exception for anyone 12 or older is required to attend the visitation and service, masks are required.
