Mr. William “Bill” David Aker, Sr., 75, of 343 N.C., Highway 62 West, died Thursday, February 25, 2010, at Moses Cone Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Burnett’s Chapel UMC with the Rev.Charles Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Aker was born on October 10, 1934 in Welch, West Virginia to the late Brook Hicks and Ethel Mae Eanes Aker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Grover “Sandy” Aker. Mr. Aker was a member of Burnett’s Chapel UMC, a Veteran of the US Marine Corp., a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and was a driver for the Senior Resources Community Nutrition Center for Burnett's Chapel. He loved to ride horses and enjoyed entertaining others with rides in his wagon pulled by his mule Daisy.He is survived by his wife, Betty Aker, of the residence, a son William “Billy” Aker, Jr. of Carolina Beach, and two grandsons, Brandon David and Jonathan Saunders Aker of High Point.The family will receive friends from 1:30 until service time on Sunday at Burnett's Chapel.Memorial contributions may be made to Burnett’s Chapel UMC, 1201 Burnett’s Chapel Rd., Greensboro, NC 27406.
