William was born in Cayuga Falls, Ohio and moved to FL 70 years ago coming from Ohio.
Prior to retirement he was the co-owner of B & A Flea Market for 38 years in Stuart, FL.
He served in the Navy during WWII; he was a member of the Church of Christ in Stuart and a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Jensen Beach, FL, a member of Masonic Acalia Lodge #163 in Stuart and past president of the Treasure Coast Builders Association. He also was owner of Bandy Light Weight Roofing and had built many businesses such as Martin Memorial Hospital, Martin County Fairgrounds, The Outrigger Restaurant, Stuart Middle School, Martin County Courthouse, Martin County High School and many Stuart and Jensen Beach Residences. He donated the property for the Stuart, YMCA. He owned Barrel Road Storage in Fort Pierce, Fl. He was also a builder in the Bahamas.
He was an avid fisherman, diver and mango connoisseur.
Survivors include his wife, of 69 years, E. Maxine Bessemer of Stuart, FL; son, William Kim Bessemer and his wife, Florence of Port St. Lucie; daughter, Tami Kirkbride of Jensen Beach, FL; brother, James Bessemer of Stuart, FL; sister, Florence Ritter of Akron, Ohio; two grandsons, Robert William Kirkbride and Casey Kent Kirkbride both of Jensen Beach, FL; and a granddaughter, Michelle Jeanine Bessemer of Port St. Lucie, FL.
He was pre deceased by his brother, Edward Bessemer.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 25, from 6:30 to 8:30PM, at Aycock Funeral Home, Jensen Beach, FL, with a private burial on Monday, April 26 at All Saints Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 26 at 6:00PM at Church of Christ in Stuart, FL.
In lieu of flowers family has requested donations be made to the Church of Christ, “Youth Program” 500 SE Palm Beach Road, Stuart, FL, 34994.
