Meroe Violet (Norris) Bappert, 84, died Thursday, June 24, 2010 in Lansing, Michigan of natural causes. Meroe, a longtime Williamston resident, was the widow of Edward P. Bappert, whom she married June 21, 1947 in Williamston, and who preceded her death in 1989. Meroe was born July 26, 1925 in Edmore, Michigan the daughter of O.C. and Quida (Dunshee) Norris.
She was a 1942 graduate of Lansing Eastern High School and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Williamston. Meroe will be remembered as the loving mother of nine children. She was active in the St. Mary Parish Altar Society and enjoyed attending Williamston senior citizen activities.
Meroe is survived by five daughters, Martha (Brent) Williams of Dimondale, Rose Hubbell (Robert Tammens), Helen (Larry) Hubbell of Jackson, Marian (Thomas) Shear of Williamston, and Anita (Mark) Newitt of Lansing; four sons, Joseph (Lo) of Haslett and Robert (Carol) of Williamston, David (Angela) of Pikeville, N.C., and William Bappert (Brinda Daggett) of Lansing. Other survivors include 21 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and another great-grandchild expected in November; sister, Thelma (Wallace) Nourse of Holt; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law and their families; and many nieces and nephews, and their families. Meroe’s family also honors her long-time best friend Audrey Force as a survivor.
In addition to her husband and parents, Meroe was preceded in death by her sisters, Freda, Iva, Maxine, Esther and Martha; brothers, Fred and Dwight Eugene; granddaughter Caitlan; and great-grandson, Christian.
The family will receive callers at St. Mary Catholic Church, 157 High Street, Williamston on Sunday, June 27, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial for Meroe will be celebrated at St. Mary Catholic Church on Monday, June 28 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Lansing.
