Funeral services for George “Buck” William Brandkamp, Sr., 83, will be 10 A.M. Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, TX with Rev. Bernard Schey, Pastor, Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment services will follow at Copperas Cove Cemetery. Mr. Brandkamp died July 18, 2010 at the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home, Temple, TX.
He was born on December 12, 1926 in Hughesville, MO. to Ben and Nellie Brandkamp. He worked on the family farm, then for the Railroad, until joining the United States Army in October of 1945. He served at Camp Hood, TX, Fort Douglas, Utah and overseas with an Infantry Unit in Korea from 1945 to 1952, and was discharged at the rank of Sgt.While stationed at Camp Hood, he met Pearlie Mae Chisholm, a widow with two young boys. They were married in New Mexico and later settled in Copperas Cove, TX to raise their family, four boys and a girl. He worked two jobs to support his family. He worked civil service for 32 years at Fort Hood, TX as a Maintenance Foreman at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area, and at Millsap’s Garage in Copperas Cove. He later married Kathleen Eloise Willday of Austin, TX in 1971. They lived in Killeen, TX. They were married until her death in 2004.
Survivors include his son, Barry C. Brandkamp, his daughter, Marla Marie Brandkamp of Copperas Cove, TX, two stepson’s Gary T. Chisholm and Dudley D. Chisholm of Florida, grandson, Jermie D. Brandkamp, step-grandsons, Todd Chisholm and Eric Chisholm, step-granddaughters, Allison Chisholm and Janie Chisholm, brothers, Charles Brandkamp, John Brandkamp, David Scholns and sister, Gertrude Burton of Sedalia, MO. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Pearlie Mae Brandkamp, his second wife Kathleen Eloise Brandkamp, his son, George William Brandkamp, Jr. (Chad), three brothers, Lawrence Brandkamp, Robert Brandkamp, and Joe Brandkamp, three sisters, Anna Lee, Geraldine, and Bessie.
The Brandkamp Family would like to extend thanks to the William R. Courtney Texas Veterans Home for taking such loving care of our father and to extend thanks to Vista Care Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
Visitation is from 6 to 8p.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, TX.
