SALEM ~ Beulah Stokke passed away on August 15, 2010 surrounded by her loving family. Beulah was the sixth of nine children born to Earl Towers and Beulah (Weiner) Towers in Calvin, North Dakota. Beulah moved to Salem in 1954 after graduating from Alsen High School in Alsen, North Dakota.
In addition to caring for her young family Beulah worked as a waitress at the Marion Hotel and later worked in health care for several Salem-area physicians. Beulah’s love of work and sense-of-humor made her many lifelong friends among co-workers and employers alike. Beulah spent many hours after retirement fondly recalling stories of work and humorous anecdotes with her good friends and colleagues.
In spite of years of battling declining health, Beulah’s strong faith and determination gave her many extraordinary years of enjoyment and contribution to her family. Beulah was truly thankful for every extra day she was able to spend with her family. Beulah leaves a legacy of faith and generosity that will serve as a lasting example to her children.
Beulah is survived by her loving husband of twenty years Vern Stokke, children; Kathy Buntjer (Salem), Mark Buntjer and daughter-in-law Karen (Livermore, California), Lisa (Buntjer) Fitzmaurice and son-in-law John Fitzmaurice (Salem) and step-children Kathy (Stokke)Erwin (Vancouver, Washington), and Debbie (Stokke) Locke (Vancouver, Washington). Surviving grandchildren include Kristen and Amy Franke (Salem), Alexander Buntjer (Sacramento, California), Kelsey Buntjer (Washington, DC), Marcus Buntjer (Riverside, California), Alivia Buntjer (Livermore, California), Kyle Buntjer (Salem) and step-grandchildren Misty (Franke) Stewart (Salem), Eric Stokke (Vancouver, Washington), Kalib Locke (Vancouver, Washington), and Paige and Ian Fitzmaurice (Salem). Great step-grandchildren include; Kendra and MaKenna Franke (Salem), Rylie Locke (Vancouver, Washington), Logan Stokke (Vancouver, Washington).
Beulah was preceded in death by her parents, brother Delwin and sister Beverly Towers (North Dakota). Surviving siblings include; brother Edwin Towers (Columbus, Ohio), sister Florine Rohn and brother Kenneth Towers (Grand Forks, North Dakota), sisters Violet Eikenbrock and Doris Ryan (Langdon, North Dakota) and brother Daryl Towers (Salem).
Services will take place on Saturday, August 21st at 2 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1770 Baxter Road S.E., Salem, Oregon 97306. Arrangements by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
