Michael was born in Baytown, on Dec. 28, 1944. He attended Horace Mann Jr. High and Rpbert E. Lee High School. Michael was known as a “talented” pipefitter and worked in and around the Baytown area refineries until sustaining a debilitating back injury after falling from a scaffold at work on the Houston Ship Channel. Michael enjoyed fishing and boating and spent many years building a steel hull fishing boat that he rode out a hurricane in, while tethered to a dock on Cedar Bayou. He had a passion for his motor bike, and was known for preparing delicious meals and barbecue.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Alvin and Gladys Derryberry; brothers, Alvin and R.C Derryberry and daughter Michelle Grigsby.
He is survived by his son, Michael “Mickey” Gavin Derryberry, Jr. and wife Tess Derryberry of Baytown; sister, Dolores “Dodie” and husband Jerry Everard of Montgomery; son-in-law, Pat Grigsby of Baytown; granddaughters, Nessa Derryberry and Shelby Grigsby; step-granddaughter, Devyn Istre; grandsons, Gavin Derryberry, Ryan Grigsby, all of Baytown; nephews, Lonnie Schatz of Atlanta, GA, Hans Schatz of Scottsdale, AZ, Thomas Derryberry of Highlands, David Derryberry of Douglas and Mark Derryberry of Wallisville.
