Ishak Mitri Akel passed away at 60 years old surrounded by his loving family on October 13, 2010. He was born in Ramallah, Pallestine and immigrated to the US in 1969. He lived in New York for most of his time then moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1992 with his family. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Mitri and Neimah Akel and loving sister Mourom Akel Gerber.
Ishak was a well known business man who had an amazing way with people. He owned and operated several Akel’s Deli’s in New York and Florida, along with his brothers Sami and Marwan. He was an avid outdoors man. He loved to tend to his yard and gardens which were the envy of the neighborhood. He always had a welcoming and loving presence about him.
Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years, Victoria, two children, Tanya (Paul) Ganim and Mitri Ishak Akel, two granddaughters, Alexis and Leena Ganim , brothers, Sami Akel (Janet), Marwan Akel (Betty), sisters, Rima El-Abu (Hanna), May Zarou, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and dear friends.
A Trisagion will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 7:00 pm with visitation starting at 6:00 pm at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Ave., Jacksonville, FL. The funeral will be Saturday, October 16 at 10:00 am at St. John the Divine, 3850 Atlantic Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32207 with Rev. Fr. Kamal Al-Rahil officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.
