Jesse Alcala, 71, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 in San Angelo, surrounded by his loving family. Arrangements are with Johnsons Funeral Home. Jesse was born August 15, 1939 to Roman and Rafaela (Longoria) Alcala in San Angelo. He met and married his soul mate Lelia Tijerina on September 9, 1961 and they shared 49 years together. God blessed their marriage with three children, John, Jesse, and Mona. Jesse worked all his life as a butcher, first with Producer’s Meat Packing plant and later with HEB. When Jesse wasn’t at work, he spent his time with his family and his favorite pastime, baseball. He loved the game, playing it well into his forty’s. When he retired from playing, he moved to coaching and coached with the Southside Lions Club little league, giving children the chance to play the game he so loved. Jesse was avid New York Yankee’s fan; he never missed a game, unless it was to support his children or grandchildren in their activities. Family meant everything to him and he made sure his family knew it. He instilled in his family his giving nature, whether it was with giving time or with giving the clothes off his back, Jesse always helped those in need. Jesse was a devoted husband and loving father who will be missed, but he leaves behind wonderful memories with his children, grandchildren, great- grandchild, and all who knew him.
Jesse is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Lelia; son John Alcala and wife Laura of Sierra Vista, Arizona; their children Jeffrey, Matthew, Jomar, Jonalyn, and Katherine; son Jesse Arnold Alcala of San Angelo, Texas, and his son Jacob; daughter Mona Robledo and husband Rey of Lubbock, Texas; their children Jaclyn and Gabriella; and great-grandchild Daniella Sauceda; sister Felice Garza and husband Manuel; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
The rosary will be 7:00 P.M., Friday, October 22, 2010 at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, October 23, 2010 at St. Margaret Catholic Church with Father Joseph Choutapalli as celebrant. Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A Reception will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for family and friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Ayass and staff for the wonderful care they provided. Arrangements under the direction of Johnson's Funeral Home, San Angelo, TX.
