Roy was the epitome of self sacrifice; he was a wonderful provider to his family and friends. He never met a stranger, befriending and caring for Lamar International students. Roy moved from Roganville to Kirbyville where he worked as a soda jerk in his father’s drug store. He moved to Beaumont and worked as a welder in the shipyards. During WWII Roy felt called to serve his country in the U.S. Army. He fought in the European theater liberating towns as they moved through Germany. Roy was a 67 year Mason and retired from Mobil Oil after 36 years of service.
Mr. Archer is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia Archer; daughter, Lynn Callas; sons, Rodney Archer and wife Suzanne, Gary Archer and wife Denise; grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley, Joshua, Kaileigh, Jeff and Scott; great grandchildren, Ryann and Jake; brother, John Henry Archer and a nephew.
Visitation will take place Thursday, December 16, 2010 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church. Interment to follow in the Garden of Love, Forest Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8517.
