Mr. Biron was born in Pittsfield, MA, on June 19, 1921, the son of the late Carl Henry Biron, Sr., and the late Viola Brisson Biron. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Helen Finn Biron, in October, 2002, by a son, Paul F. Biron in September, 2005, and sisters, Alberta Mendel and Bernice Cahill.
Mr. Biron retired as manager of finance from General Electric in 1983 after 43 years of service. He transferred to Rome from Pittsfield, MA, in 1953 with General Electric in the finance division. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he served on the finance committee.
Mr. Biron was a veteran of World War II, serving as a pilot with the U. S. Army Air Corps from 1942-46. He attained the rank of Captain and flew over the hump in China, Burma and India. He remained in the U. S. Air Force Reserve until 1956. He was a member of the China-Burma-India Hump Pilots’ Association, the Air Transport Command Association, the Georgia Mountain Music Club, the Elfun Society and the Walking Horse Association of Alabama.
Mr. Biron enjoyed sailing, traveling, and horseback riding. He established Mountain View Stables and owned and showed Tennessee Walking Horses. He found great enjoyment in his travels with the Georgia Mountain Music Club and travels to various locations to meet with fellow hump pilots.
Survivors include a son, Steven D. Biron (Carol), Middleton, MD; three daughters, Kathy A. Wilson (Jack), Rome, Susan M. Floyd (Bruce), Rome, and Laura A. Cochran (Tim), Chatsworth; grandchildren, Chris Biron, Griffin, Allison Moore, Marietta, and Michael Biron and Andy Biron, Middleton, MD; great grandchildren, Olivia and Hudson Moore, Marietta; close friend and caregiver, Brenda Kessinger; and his beloved dog, Tillie. A special thanks goes to Bea Conway, Mattie Davis, Shirley Norris and Barbara Gunn.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at 12 noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Edward Danneker and Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 4, from 6 until 8 p.m. A Biblical Wake service will take place at 5:45 p.m.
