Tommie J. Spear was born May 13, 1944, in Wellington. She later married Carl Ausbrooks on July 20, 1962, in Borger.
Tommie graduated from Borger High School and Amarillo College. She loved fishing, reading her Bible and being outside; and sitting on her front porch at the cabin. She was an avid gardener and loved to work in her yard.
Tommie was responsible for implementing many child care centers in the Amarillo area, including Kingswood Methodist After School Program and Campfire Program at Carver Elementary Magnet School. She had the first indoor beach in town.
Tommie was a very active longtime member at Lighthouse Baptist Church. She assisted in the building of the first church in Valle De Oro, where she also named a road "Ole Muddy Road."
Tommie was employed by Region 16 and later retired from Amarillo College as the Director of Amarillo Child Development Lab School. She loved her kids and grandkids very much. She never met a stranger and was truly a "people" person.
In lieu of flowers, suggests memorials be to Lighthouse Baptist Memorial Building Fund, 5631 Pavillard Drive, Amarillo, TX 79108-4210.
