Emmett Benge, 82, of Arkoma, OK passed away at his home on Thursday, January 27, 2011. He was born April 23, 1928. Emmett was retired from Firestone and was the past owner of the Hasty Mart in Arkoma.
Emmett served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the late 40’s in Japan. He played semi-professional baseball while in Japan, pitching a no-hitter.
Emmett was preceded in death by his first wife, Freda.
His greatest joy in life was his family. He leaves his wife of 19 years, Chris Benge. Emmett is also survived by two sons, Kent and his wife Debbie of Spiro, and Terry of Fort Smith; two step-daughters and their spouses, Carla and Ken Holloway of Ohio, and Connie and Mark Williams of Greenwood; two brothers, Jack and his wife Katherine Benge of Spiro, and Hoyt Benge of Little Rock; 8 grandchildren, Crystal Woolly, Neisha Gladness, and Leisha Terrell all of Spiro, Sarah Dyal of Florida, Kinsey Holloway of Colorado, Erin Holloway of Ohio, Kevin Williams of N. Little Rock, and Taylor Williams of Greenwood; 7 great-grandchildren, Josh and Justace Woolly, Shakyrah Gladness, Dache, Dakotah, and DaQuayne Terrell, all of Spiro, Kolby Dyal of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
Emmett’s favorite past time was playing music. He was well known in the area for his skill playing the bass guitar.
Family will greet friends at 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at Fentress Mortuary.
Funeral services will be Monday, 11 a.m. in the chapel at Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Mark Williams, Ken Holloway, Kevin Williams, Darren Woolly, Kenneth, Jay Jack, and Ryan Franklin, and Anthony Terrell.
