Leon L. Ballard, a long time resident of Brazoria County, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. He was born on September 14th, 1919, in Houston to parents, L.Y. and Myrtle Ballard. Leon grew up in the Heights and graduated from Reagan High School. He served his country during World War II as a B-29 pilot in the Pacific theater. Leon retired from Western Electric in 1978 after more than 35 years or service. He enjoyed over 33 years of retirement on the San Bernard River. Leon was preceded in death by his daughter Betty Ballard McCreery and is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maxine, son Bill and wife Mary, son-in-law Frank McCreery, grandchildren Tara Taylor and husband Joey, Ryan McCreery and wife Amber, Kelly McCreery, Scott Ballard, Taylor Ballard and her fiancé Stephen Marsh, great grandchildren Avery and Ashley Taylor, Cadence, Colby and Campbell McCreery. Visitation and funeral services will be held on Monday, February 21, 2011, at the Restwood Funeral Home, 1038 W. Plantation Dr., Clute, TX. Visitation at 9:30AM with funeral service to follow at 10:30. Internment at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston TX, 1:30 PM.
