Bob Nolan, an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), was a 1965 graduate of Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College, Wilson, NC), and of Lexington (KY) Theological Seminary, 1968. Early in his ministry, he was pastor of both Providence (KY) Christian Church and First Christian Church, Elizabeth City, NC. He then chose as his form of ministry assisting various church-related entities in developing the resources for their missions, serving as director of development for the church’s National Benevolent Association (Edmond, OK), director of planned giving for Texas Christian University (Fort Worth, TX), and vice president of institutional advancement for Bethany (WV) College. Before he retired in 2009, he served as independent fund raising counsel for scores of church-related organizations and general units.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years Karen DeHart Nolan; son David Tilghman Nolan (Jana), grandsons Connor and John Nolan, all of Fort Worth, TX; and sister Cathey Nolan Donald (Jim) of Auburn, AL.
Private family inurnment in Black Mountain, NC, at the Christmount columbarium will precede a public memorial service on Tuesday, March 15, at 1:00 p.m. at Covenant Christian Church, Cary, NC. Rev. Joanne VerBurg, Cary, and nephew Rev. Dr. Nolan B. Donald of Houston, TX, will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
