July 3, 1943 – March 4, 2011
Karren was born in Long Beach, CA to Virginia Fuller and Donald Miller. She spent her entire life in Long Beach, graduating from Millikan High School in 1961 where she was a member of Omega Kappa Kai. She met her future husband, John Albertson, at a sorority party in Big Bear, CA and they were married in 1964. Karren worked at various jobs, including a position at Retla Lines, one of the first steamship lines in the Port of Long Beach. Karren and John had 3 children and she continued working outside the home until she was unfortunately diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis.
Although it was a life changing diagnosis, Karren never let the arthritis slow her down. She continued to happily raise her children and became quite possibly the original “soccer mom”. Soccer became the family’s passion but Karren had many interests of her own. She was an avid collector of dolls and fairies, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and most recently became a member of the Red Hat Society. But anyone who knew Karren would tell you that shopping was her true calling. She loved shopping for anything and everything, even groceries.
Karren had a very close relationship with her three children and she became like a second mom to many of their friends. As her beautiful and precious grandchildren were born, they became her happiest companions. She would play with them everyday after school and during the summer at what they fondly called “Camp Grammy.” Grammy never let her handicaps stop her from doing the things she loved. She and John enjoyed cruising to Hawaii, vacationing in Jamaica and taking mini vacations to Morro Bay.
She was a loving and kind daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Karren was preceded in death by her daughter Tiffany Marie, survived by her beloved husband John, daughter Stephany, son Johnny, daughter-in-law Denise, beautiful grand-daughters Kelsey, Shelby, Jamie, & Jessica, sister Donna, and many more cherished relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, March 12 at White’s Funeral Home, 9903 E. Flower Street, Bellflower, CA 90706. Telephone (562) 867-2741. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Karren’s name to the Arthritis Foundation.
