Rey P. Alcid, 50 years old, of Austin, Texas but originally from Manila, Philippines, passed away on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 after struggling with cancer which was only very recently diagnosed. Rey was born on August 14, 1960 in Pasay City, Philippines to both deceased, Trinidad Peredo and Jose H. Alcid. Ley, as he was fondly called, was the 10th of a brood of 12 children. On May 10, 1996, he married Magdalena Paglinawan of Baguio City, Philippines, who survives him together with their two lovely children, Andrea, 11 and Arlyn, 9.
Ley completed both high school and college at the Ateneo de Manila University in Manila. He completed A.B. Economics. He migrated to the United States in 1984 to pursue his career further. He lived and worked in Connecticut before moving to California, where he met Magdalena, his future wife. He was an avid computer junkie and dabbled in computer building on the side. Just prior to his sudden and unexpected demise, he was one unit shy of completing his prerequisites for entry into nursing school. Rey took excellent care of his two children, and nothing gave him more pleasure than to spend time with them, take them to their school functions, was a regular volunteer at all school activities, taught catechism at the church and school, and enjoyed taking them to all their extra-curricular activities.
Ley enjoyed traveling and was involved in many outdoor activities with his extended family. He was the family comedian and everybody enjoyed his company immensely. He would brighten any room with his antics and jokes. People gravitated toward him because he was very easygoing and fun-loving. He particularly enjoyed going to thrift shops and spend hours rummaging through stuff. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father and friend.
He is preceded in death by both parents, Trinidad Peredo and Jose H. Alcid. He is survived by his wife Magdalena and their two children; sisters, Pinky, Rina, Ella, Joy, Lala and Tiza; brothers, Pot, Toy, Rene, Jude, and Loy; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with recitation of the Holy Rosary to be held at 7:00 p.m.
