Gerald M. Driscoll, son of the late Atty. Frank G and Anne (Ryan) Driscoll died April 5, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Chicago, IL on December 9, 1923. After a short residence there, he lived in Atlanta, GA before moving to Elizabeth, NJ, where he graduated from the Pingry School, the oldest Country Day School in America. His college years at Amherst College were interrupted by World War II. He saw service in the Navy in the Pacific Theater, participating in the liberation of the Philippines and the Battle of Okinawa. After the war, he graduated from Amherst and earned a Master’s Degree from Teacher’s College, Columbia University.
His professional career spanned 37 years teaching in the public schools of Somerset and Barrington, RI. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church where he was a former member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Samaritans. He was a member of the National Education Association.
He enjoyed traveling and exercising, but his passion was working in the garden.
He was married to the former Patricia Henry for 56 years, prior to her death in 2009. He is survived by son David and his wife Lisa of Somerset; daughters Patricia Pomerleau and her husband Michael of Seekonk; Ellen Connor and her husband Frederick of Montpelier, VT; son William and his partner Reginald Avant of Atlanta, GA and six grandchildren; Patrick and Meaghan Driscoll, Mark and Kevin Pomerleau, Thomas and Julie Connor, one niece Judith Margarita. He was brother of the late Dr. Anne Selverstone.

His Funeral will be held Friday, April 8, 2011 at 10:30AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at ROSE E. SULLIVAN 866 County Street followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30AM in St. Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave. Somerset. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:00-7:30PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, Brookline, MA 02445-7226. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Somerset.
