Copperas Cove –Funeral services with full military honors for Kenneth C. Bernhard, 72, of Kempner will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Chapel in Copperas Cove. The family will have a time of visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. Father Jim Robertson will officiate.
Inurnment will be at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. He passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 at his home in Kempner.
Kenneth Carl Bernhard was born October 4, 1938 in Cheektowaga, New York.
He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Among the awards he received were the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Bronze Star Medal; MTR Vehicle Driver Badge; American Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze 5 Loops; Vietnam Service medal w/1 Silver Service Star; and Army Commendation Medal. While in the service, he ran several clubs in Vietnam. After retirement from the Military he owned several businesses including, Skateworld and The Bird Cage. He also retired from Civil Service.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Copperas Cove.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy L. Bernhard of Kempner; two sons, Buddy Trist of Lampasas and Pat Bernhard of Kempner; two daughters, Darlene Covin and Patricia Andrews, both of Kempner; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.and long best friends Jerry and Penny Rivers.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
