Antero G. Alaniz, Sr. of Greeley died Friday, April 22, 2011 in Hospice of Northern Colorado inpatient unit. He was born January 1, 1929 in Cameron, Texas to Lucas and Juana (Garcia) Alaniz.
He worked all of his life farming in Eagle Pass, Texas and Greeley. He worked for Tom Swanson, in Severance, Colorado, Min Okuta, in Ontario, Oregon, and Dan Sitzman in Greeley. Antero enjoyed time spent with his friends, but especially his family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time in his flower and vegetable gardens and cooking for everyone. He was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Antero is survived by his daughter Ernestina Medina of Greeley, and children Julie and Erica; sons, Oscar Alaniz Sr. (Rosemary) of Ontario, Oregon, and children Lupe, Oscar Jr., Rocky, Jessie and Hopie; Raul Alaniz Sr. (Maria) of Greeley, and children Linda, Veronica, Raul Jr., Freddy, Jaime, Laura, Veronica, Lourdes, and Hector; Edward Alaniz (Liliana) of Greeley, and children Antero, Luis, Monique, Tony and Vanessa; and Robert Alaniz of Greeley, and children Elva Iris and Derik; daughter-in-law Catalina Alaniz of Greeley, wife of Antero Jr., and children Lucas, Yvette and Ricky; son-in-law Manuel Rivas of Greeley, husband of Olga, and children Jose, Brenda, Maria Idalia, Adam, Jessie, Nancy and Naomi; Carlos’ children, Carlos Jr., Blanca, Luis Anna, and Carlos Alaniz Jr. of Eagle Pass, Texas; sister-in-law Matilda Alaniz of Tulia, Texas, and brother-in-law Francisco Martinez of Piedras Negras, Coah., Mexico. He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice Martinez Alaniz, son Carlos Alaniz, daughter Olga Rivas and son Antero Alaniz Jr.
Visitation 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary 7 p.m. Tuesday at Stoddard Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment Sunset Memorial Gardens.
