Everyone’s life is the sum of all of the people they have met, the things they have done, and the places they have gone. Gilbert Olmedo Siqueiros was no exception. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special to family and friends who knew him best. Gilbert will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Gilbert’s life journey began on June 9th, 1929. He first greeted the world in Porterville, California. His parents' names were Ramon and Brigida Siqueiros. He grew up in Porterville, California. Growing up for Gilbert was an involving experience. It allowed him to learn, grow and create all kinds of cherished memories.
A lot of what shaped Gilbert’s life was how he was raised. He was raised with his beloved sister Mary. He was always known to be a hard worker even in his youth. At a young age he worked in the fields to assist his family. Gilbert traveled from his birthplace in Porterville to work the docks in Oakland and eventually settling down to raise his family in San Jose.
Falling in love is a huge milestone for any person. Just knowing that you have met that special someone is a magical feeling. Gilbert experienced that with Alice Hernandez. Gilbert exchanged wedding vows with Alice on June 21st, 1948 in Porterville, California. Empathic and loyal, Gilbert was committed to making his new family happy. It is true that during those early years the couple lived modestly, but they were happy nonetheless. Gilbert was a man who took pride in upholding his beliefs. While everything a person does in life contributes to whom they grow into, it is ultimately this same person who holds the most influence on the next generation. Gilbert worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Gilbert was blessed with three children; Gil Jr., Jeff and Sally. He worked hard toward raising his children in a positive and nurturing environment. Later on, Gilbert was blessed with the gift of three grandchildren; Jason A. Castellanos, Jennifer Lynn Siqueiros and Stacey Rae Siqueiros and five great-grandchildren; Michael Jay Castellanos, Antonio Gilberto Castellanos, Jayden Christopher Castellanos, Ella Marie Castellanos and Elijah Jeffery Clandening.
How a person performs in the workplace can be a reflection on how they live their life. Fortunately, Gilbert enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Gilbert worked diligently and did his best to succeed in each of his jobs. While he worked several jobs over his life, Gilbert’s primary occupation was working at Ford Motor Company. Though Gilbert didn’t work for accolades, he was recognized for a job well done. He received numerous awards from Ford Motor Company throughout his career.
A person's hobbies often mirror who they have become. Gilbert enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in a number of different activities, including boxing, fishing, barbequing and maintaining his aquariums.
There was nothing more fulfilling to Gilbert than having family and friends together while barbequing, enjoying good food and sharing stories with each other. Additionally, Gilbert thoroughly enjoyed fishing. One of his most storied fishing experiences was when he caught a marlin while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas. Gilbert also found solace in the hobby of maintaining his aquariums. This hobby commenced by a leg injury he had while fishing. This allowed him to focus more time to fish aquariums. At his peak he had over ten fish tanks and was successfully breeding fish. After Gilbert retired from professional boxing he always followed the sport closely. He loved to gather with family and friends and watch a good fight on the television.
A person’s faith says a great deal about them. Some people are raised with strong beliefs while others garner them throughout their life. Gilbert had both since he attended Catholic school as a youth and continued practicing his faith by being a parishioner for many years at St. Victor’s Church in San Jose, CA. Gilbert’s faith was important to him.
Gilbert Siqueiros left us on May 8th, 2011. He passed away in San Jose, California. Gilbert lived a fulfilled 81 years. Services were handled by Oak Hill Funeral Home San Jose, California. Gilbert was laid to rest at Oak Hill Memorial Park San Jose, California.
So this is Gilbert’s life, the sum of the man that he became. Simply stated, Gilbert was a good person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being caring and giving, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Gilbert leaves behind him a legacy of lifelong friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life Gilbert Olmedo Siqueiros touched will always remember him with a smile.
