Frederick (Fred) Edmund Burris, Sr., age 82 of Bella Vista, AR, formerly of Waukegan, Illinois, passed away on May 21, 2011 at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville. He was born January 18, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio.
Fred served in the U.S. Army in the 82nd Airborne in 1946, in Japan. Following his discharge, he was employed at Johnson Outboard as a machinist for 30 years and was president of the Independent Machinists Mechanic Association. During this time Fred attended Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. After his retirement, Fred and his family moved to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, where he purchased and operated Pine Haven Campground and Cuz-n-Derf’s Restaurant for many years.
Fred loved to work and maintain the campground; cook at Derf’s enjoyed his family, golfing, boating, playing pool, traveling, music and entertaining family.
Fred is survived by his son, Fred Burris, Jr. of Bella Vista; daughters, Sharon Moore of Bentonville, Judy Williams of Bella Vista, Tina (Dennis) Searcy of Bentonville, Keri Lovell of Fayetteville; brother, Raymond Burris of Waukegan, Illinois; sisters, Dorothy Waugh and Edith Renouf of Twin Lakes, WI; ten grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Sassy.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ethel Burris; two brothers; Melvin and Harold Burris, a sister, Marie Dahl two wives; Marjorie Woodard and Joan Burris, and twin grandsons Mathew and Jacob Williams.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home, Bentonville. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday in the Chapel of Callison-Lough Funeral Home, Bentonville. Graveside services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Eureka Springs City Cemetery in Eureka Springs.
