Born April 1, 1926, to Glen Curtis and Hilda Marie (Ingledue) Cleverly in Angola, Ind.
William served in the United States Army as a Private 1st Class from 1944 to 1947, proudly protecting his family and country in World War II.
He retired from Fremont Manufacturing in 1989 after 15 years of service.
Surviving are his loving wife, Sharon Paulette (Ansley); his son, William Kurtis (LeeAnn) Cleverly of Fremont; seven daughters, Sheri P. (Chad) Pierce of New Jersey, Kathy Cleverly of Fort Wayne, Joleen Hancock of Pleasant Lake, Kim Cleverly of Fremont, Tammy (Scott) Charters of Angola, Billie Oliver of Kendallville, and Frances (Walter) Herendeen of Angola; 21 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Curtis Cleverly and Hilda Marie (Ingledue) Cleverly, his brother Donald Dean Cleverly, a grandson, Karsten Williams and a great-grandson, Devon Stevenson.
William enjoyed camping, fishing, loved watching races, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed making bird houses and woodworking, He married Sharon Paulette (Ansley) on July 29, 1972, in Angola, Ind., and they cherished their 39 years together.
Known as “Wild Bill,” he was a jack of all trades, and a master of none, he enjoyed his “Red Hat” ladies, he was a member of the Fremont Moose Lodge, and he attended the Fremont Community Church.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He also had a favorite little dog, “Butterscotch.”
Funeral services will be held at Beams Funeral Home at 11 am Wednesday, June 1, 2011, with the Rev. Darold Beck and Dr. Greg Chupp and Kevin Landis officiating.
Viewing will be on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Beams Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fremont Cemetery, Fremont, Indiana.
