Kay was born on February 1, 1947 in Savannah, GA. She began her education in the public school system in Savannah and graduated from Southwest High School in Atlanta in 1964. After high school, Kay attended and graduated from Greenleaf Business School. She worked as a secretary at Georgia Tech before being hired by Delta Air Lines in 1969. Kay worked as a flight attendant for more than 30 years before retiring.
Kay was a beautiful person inside and out. Her sweet spirit and giving heart brought joy to everyone she met. Kay was devoted to her family and her many life long friends.
Kay is survived by her husband of 31 years, Charles Lee Allen; her sisters Gail Hendry Brown, Eleanor Hendry Gaither and Carol Hendry, all of Savannah; a nephew, Tony Brown; two nieces, Kristin Brown and Jennifer Gaither Clark; the lights of her life, her great- nephews and great-niece, Owen Brown, Hunter Clark, and Kenzie Clark; and her many friends.
Kay was predeceased by her father and mother, George F. and Dorothy Sterne Hendry.
A memorial service and celebration of Kay’s life will be held at a later date.
Remembrances in Kay’s name may be made to: Trinity United Methodist Church or Wilmington Island United Methodist Church, both of Savannah, GA, Egleston Hospital, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
