Mary Louise Aho, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother died on June 4, 2011 at the age of 95. Mary Louise Zander was born in Fort Meade, Florida on March 26, 1916. She married Wayne Aho in 1943 and they had two children; Margaret and Alan. Mary Lou and Wayne called El Paso their home for 57 of their 68 years of marriage before moving to Dallas in 2008.
Mary Lou received her BA from the University of Florida in 1941, her master’s degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1956, and her doctorate from Florida State University in 1971. Her lifelong teaching career began as a first grade teacher and culminated as an associate professor supervising student teachers at the University of Texas at El Paso.
While in El Paso she remained active in her church, bridge club, and garden club. She was an avid horticulturist and accomplished Master Gardener.
She is survived by her loving husband, Wayne; daughter, Margaret Hamilton; son-in-law Carl Hamilton; and two wonderful grand children, Evan Hamilton and Megan Hamilton.
Services will be held at Preston Hollow United Methodist Church, on June 8 at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Texas Alpha Delta Kappa Zeta Scholarship Fund, 2404 Gairloch Drive El Paso, Texas 79925.
