Age 93, longtime resident of Duluth, went to be with her Lord Friday, June 10, 2011, while at St. Luke’s Hospital.
She was born January 22, 1918 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Carl and Emma Klaung. Verda was a 1931 high school graduate. On July 19, 1941 she married Theodore Anderson. Verda and Ted owned and operated Carlson Motel and Cabins on the north shore with Verda retiring in 1998. Verda loved her church and family, especially her grandchildren. She established many friendships while operating the motel and cabins.
Verda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ted on June 23, 1972; a son, Michael; and a sister, Evangeline Moore.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Linda), of Duluth, Bob (Linnae), of Fosston, MN, William, of Two Harbors and James (Linda), of Two Harbors; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, LaRona McGovern; many other relatives and friends.
The family would like to thank Kathy and the staff at Mt. Royal Pines, the physicians and nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital, especiall I.C.U., and Pastor Greg Garmer for the wonderful care given to Verda and compassion showed to the family. Memorials may be given to the French River Lutheran Church.
Visitation from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday, June 15th at the Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home and will continue from 10:00am until the 11:00 am funeral service Thursday, June 16th at French River Lutheran Church, 5310 Ryan Road.
