Daniel Spengler, 85, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at City Hospital in Akron, Ohio. He was born October 18, 1925 in Yugoslavia. He spent over 50 years as a tailor for several local tailor shops as well as his own home-based tailor shop. He retired from May Company but continued to work from his home shop until well into his 70s.
Dan enjoyed friends and family and was an avid gardener, winning multiple awards from the city for beautification. He married Katherine Fetzer on October 18, 1959 and together they raised seven children in Akron, Ohio. He was a long time member of the Apostolic Christian Church where he faithfully attended and was both the most tenured and oldest member.
He is survived by his children Lila of Columbus, OH; Larry (Donna) of Columbus, OH; Laura, Elvin, Lenny, all of Akron, Ohio; Judy of Weirton, WV; Randy (Kaari) of Oxnard, CA, and two grandchildren, Peter and Joseph. He is also survived by three siblings, Elsa, Milan and George as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Family will receive friends Friday, June 17 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 18. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at Catavolos Funeral Home, 3653 W. Market Street, Fairlawn, OH 44333. Burial will immediately follow the service at Rose Hill Burial Park. Ministers from the Apostolic Christian Church will be officiating.
